Hi, I'm Danny and I became chairman as one of the founding members of the club back in 2021. A role that I thoroughly enjoy, even though it is challenging at times, from day to day running of the club, organising the weekly run schedule, and making terrible speeches at the event nights. The club has gone from strength to strength in such a short space of time. For me the most important aspect of the Dynamos is the community side of things, the fact that it has brought so many people together and created so many friendships, and will continue to do so.
I’d been running for a few years when I saw Facebook posts about a new run group in the village. I wanted to help out so I put myself forward as treasurer. Snapped my hand off they did .. I guess it’s a job no one wants !😄. Running with the club since day one I was happy and proud to watch it grow, but seeing from the inside the time and effort needed by run leaders of which we had very few, I felt the time was right to have a go at run leading myself. I’ve met so many lovely people through doing so it’s been a completely positive experience. It’s good for getting me out too as if I’m leading and it’s raining .. I can’t cancel , I still have to go!
Hi, I'm Louise and I launched the Dynamos in June 2021 with my husband Danny Barnes and the startup committee. I expected to see 20 to 30 people out running around the moor and on launch night we were so worried if anyone would actually turn up. We now have 100+ runs booked per week and over 25 walkers out fortnightly with the Walkie Talkies. What an achievement for everyone who has been involved from volunteers to members.
I organise social events, support with club admin, social media, technical support and merchandise and manage the club shop.
I feel that both the physical and mental wellbeing of all our members is so important. I love to see members achieving PBs but also seeing friendships form.
I’m Caroline (my friends call me Chicken). I started running in 2019 and quickly got the bug. I even taught my Whippet to run with me (without tripping me up!)
I didn’t hesitate when asked to be on the committee and to be more involved. I juggle that with a very busy job, being a wife, mummy and also a cub leader at a local group in Gildersome. There’s definitely more to running a running club than meets the eye but I absolutely love it and am very proud to be a part of it and what it’s has done to bring people together in the local community.
Relaunching the DDWT Walkie Talkies group in October has made the club even more inclusive so I have a great sense of achievement being part of DDRC. My goal is to be a run leader if I can stay injury free!
I'm David and I've been running on and off for the last 20 years. I started as a way to lose weight, but trained on my own which was tough. When a new parkrun started in Bramley, it spawned a new running club (Bramley Breezers) and so I started to run with them. Running with a group is so much more fun and beneficial. When I bumped into some Dynamos at a parkrun in the summer of 2021 I decided to give the club a go as it was closer to home and I haven't looked back (although I still occasionally run with the Breezers who are my second claim). I was happy to accept the invitation to join the committee and I'm looking forward to taking on the Membership Secretary role (and you can ask me what second claim means).
